Bill Realizes His Dream and is Stone Cold Sober

We ordered the previous night two box lunches, of Scottish salmon, assorted cheeses, strawberries, rolls, some wonderful little deserts and of course a little Pinot Noir. Just because a couple of chappies are visiting 5000 years of Neolithic history doesn't mean they can't have a proper meal to put it in perspective.
We get a late start and beginning our drive on unfamiliar county roads. The roads we are on twists and turns until we read a straight away and upon a hill high up, dead center stands a 3 stone column like a Greek Temple. Like a racehorse I can see Bill pulling at the bit, raring to charge out of the car. This day we hit a number of different stones. Some were only one stone, others we massive circles and burial chambers. We would learn to discriminated and Bill really only wanted to visited the major ones. He was getting cock, "No small stone for me." Our area of Scotland has over three hundred stones, so we had work to do to narrow our choices.

I will say this not many people here know or seem to have much interests in the stones. We were lost at one point and I stop and this wonderful hotel thinking ahhh, they will help us. Upon getting out of the car, Bill and i saw a sigh for skeet shooting then some gentlemen in English Tweeds going about their business. I began to see the clientele that stayed here. A very attractive young lady dresses in a way that makes old men dream dreams. We immediately got the once over the way we were dressed. Now here i am in my gadget jacket with 34pockets of which i can only find 32, gadget pants, shirt, clothes the material is the kind that if there was a nuclear fallout these clothes would not wrinkle. Bill with his hair not knowing which direction to go in, jeans and unshaven. She did not seem to know anything about the stones, and seem to be busy with other things as we sat there. Out of the blue the hotel manager appears, she must have dial him somehow. He had that snotty look and asked if we were staying in the area, hoping I guess we did not want to check in. Yes, I told him, we are staying a small place not far from here called the Kildrummy Castle Hotel. His eyebrows went up. Had I been an English Gentlemen from the Victorian age complete with tails on, top hat, cape and walking cane, I would have given him a thumping, and then told his strumpet to fix us a decent caffe latte to go or she would get more of the same. Alas, we are who we are and Bill and I left to find our own way.
I will post photos below in roughly the order we visited.

Our Bill in Stone Heaven. I made it, I made it,

The first stone.

Its information

Same as above

On that hill to the left was the Greek Temple Stone we could not access.

A different stone called The Maiden Stone and Bill studying the Stone

We finally hit a magnificent stone circle and Sarah had mentioned to Bill she wanted to see him hugging a stone, so Bill up the ante, went one better and kissed the stone.

A ancient burial chamber or man's first martini bar?

Bill lounging away...

Self portrait as I relax

The next set of stones. A wonderful example of their cremation ritual. We found this circle when driving crazy back and forth unnamed roads, I say to Bill "I am going to pull in here and turn around, and lo and behold as we pulled in, we saw the sign for the stone circle.

A so called recumbent stone circle do to the one on its side. The stone is 20 tons.

Perspective on how big it is.
