The rest of the first.....

Day.......

We left or shall I say staggered out of the Jolly Judge to take the photos in the last post. I had Bill take a photo of me in front of the same place leaning and holding up the wall for support. As we know HoldtheSun has many wonderful qualities, much to my chagrin electronics is not one of them as when we finally stop at the below mentioned restaurant and I went to view the photo is was not taken.
Putting one foot in front of the other Bill and I trudged onward......The major street in Edinburgh is Prince street known as the Royal Mile. The Sartre of the street is the magnificent Edinburgh Castle.

Here it travels down about a mile with major tourist shops, restaurants, pubs, clothing shops and the usual but indispensable souvenir shops. We walk up towed the Castle stopping to go into St. Giles Cathedral. However, as we tried to enter our way was barred by a nice looking women surrounded and a discretely out of the way security to inform us that an important event of Parliament was going on and we could not enter. A Cathedral differs from a church in that a Cathedral has the seat of a Bishop as its head. We attempt to go to the Whiskey Exhibit but that took seemed to close at 17:00 hours or 5 pm. Undaunted or maybe because of the drink we happily amber forward attempting to uncover the rest of Royal Mile.

We discover a wonderful, youthful (read cheap) cafe going by the name of the Elephant Cafe. Here much like in NYC, it combines reasonable meals, pastries, coffee, Internet cafe and a place for artist, poets, students, tourists and dead beats to gather and enjoy the atmosphere while pondering what is going on in the space between their ears. HoldtheSun and I had no such lofty thoughts as we wanted to grab a snack or coffee to stabilize our journey. Bill found on the menu the same desert-Afagato that he had at Mary's Fish Camp restaurant in Park Slope. I settle for a Cafe Latte double which is double expresso with steamed milk to clear my head as my tolerance for booze is not the equal of our HoldtheSun. Memo to self: work on your drinking.

The waitress's gave us directions to an eating establishment/pub which we never found. However, Bill who seem to have an uncanny sense of finding out of the way dives brought to my attention a place appropriately named the cellar pub. No sooner had he mentioned that he was interested and he was hungry that we started our descent into the bowels of another Edinburgh establishment. I took our my camera and wanting to record the moment for posterity and before I new it HoldtheSun was gone. As you can see from the skid marks left from his sneakers he was off and running below.

To be continued......
