The Cullerlie Stone Circle is different than the others in that it has several smaller stone circles within a bigger one, This was supposedly used as a cremation and burial place.
The Stone Circles were great because they were free and therefore, no opening or closing times. They were set in strange places you that really made you feel like a traveler trying to track them down. You worked to find them and that i liked. We drove down some very picturesque roads. They were in quiet places to relax and reflect on the visual you just witness. There were rarely, I believe only once was anyone else there with us and they were leaving as we arrived.
The other side of the stone sought to speak was since they had the above mentioned good things, the negatives were they were poorly marked on map and road, and made finding take up a large part of the day. The picturesque roads were narrow, two lanes of traffic that made hard driving at times. I gather because they were created so long ago not a lot is known about these wonderful circles. There is knowledge out there but it seems a lot of guesswork as there of course was not any recorded history. Most of the stones we visited were excavated only in 1934 where they seem to have found Neolithic burial chambers in the area as well.
The best of the best part was seeing how happy Bill was to realize his dream trip, as he walked around, in, took photos and pondered alone as well as together. The sometime photos I would take of Bill not posing, or just walking around, or taking a photo because I wanted to give him his time to enjoy the moment. We would explore everywhere together as well as alone then reconnect at some point. This you will see or have noticed already in previous photos and will be in future ones as well. At each site wherever we visited be it stones or castles, we spent a good portion of time enjoying where we were and we needed to mix up walking as well as getting breaks from being in the car. It was my privilege to have put together this trip and my enjoyment to see his face and how much he enjoyed himself. For my style of traveling, handleizing it all and loving it, Bill is an amazing travel partner.
Off we go for the next two days to visit castles.......

Bill pondering the moment.
Just me being bowled over within the beautiful maintained farm behind me. This circle was located about 70 yards off the road, about 30 yards wide, with tress on either side of well maintained grass leading to the Circle.
A couple of happy chaps getting ready to have another well deserved boxed lunch at the Stones.
